AFOQT FAQ

What is the AFOQT?
The Air Force Officer Qualifying Test is a standardized test used by the U.S. Air Force and Space Force to assess candidates for officer commissioning programs. It measures verbal, quantitative, and aviation-related aptitude.
How long does the AFOQT take?
Approximately 3.5 hours of testing time, not counting administrative time. The 12 subtests vary from 4.5 to 40 minutes each.
What is a competitive AFOQT score?
Minimums are Verbal 15 / Quantitative 10, but competitive candidates typically score 50+ on relevant composites. For pilot training, a Pilot composite of 25+ and PCSM of 50+ is generally competitive.
Can I retake the AFOQT?
You may take the AFOQT a maximum of two times total, with a mandatory 180-day wait between attempts. Your most recent score is the one that counts.
What subtests affect the Pilot composite?
Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension, and Aviation Information drive the Pilot composite. These four are where your prep time has the highest ROI if you're aiming for rated aviation.
How should I approach the Self-Description Inventory?
Answer honestly and consistently. It is a personality assessment and there are no trick answers. Inconsistent responses are algorithmically detected. Reflect your genuine leadership tendencies.
